You were very lucky indeed Beth! I hope one day you'll get to live there again.. We visited Oahu for the first time last October and loved your side of the island. We'd move there in a heartbeat if we could find jobs there. In the meantime, we're definitely planning another visit for this fall.
I spent some time in Lanikai during my 2002 Hawaiian vaca...it rocked. Have fond memories of dragging a 2 person sea kayak two blocks to the beach barefoot (the ex watched) and delicious burgers and beer at Buzz's (name?).
And you are still damned lucky, you have each other!
Unfortunately, tho, you had to come back to Southern CA during the dreaded "June gloom" season. I feel your pain...summers here suck. I'm in RIverside County.
Thanks Beth... As I sit outside my office in VA, looking at more concrete and a few trees here and there.. Now i can't wait for August when I'm in the Mediterranean!!!!!
Beth, I just got my copy of your book. My six-year-old daughter loves it (and is very proud that she can read most of the words by herself)! Just wanted to thank you for an awesome book! :)
Our friend lives in Lanikai, and I definitely miss it when we're not there visiting.
I know exactly how you feel! We lived across the street from you and Jorge in the house the bordered the ditch, anyway we moved a few months before you guys and we really miss it. I miss my big Plumeria tree that the kids use to climb in. And I miss the fresh mangos we use to get from the other neighbor's tree. I have promised the kids that we will go back one day. Until then we are on a new adventure in CA.
i so know how you feel! i lived on oahu for five months in 2001 and i miss it so much! i've been trying to save money to go back but life keeps catching up to me :(

That is a beautiful picture! I would want to go back too.
do you ever look at Jorge and just scream "WE HAVE TO GO BACK!!!" Jack-style? because that would be awesome
I can't imagine having to move away from a front yard that beautiful. We're planning to visit there very soon. We'll tell the Mokes you said hi.

envious of your experience Beth. On to new adventures and look forward to that one day when you do get to Go BAAAAACK!
I want to move there every time we visit. Next trip is next summer.
Yeah, you really lived in the paradise for the last six years. But to make you feel better:
I've never been on a beautiful place like that! ;)
Fantastic! Was this the view from your place???
@Rebecca - Good idea!!!
@Dave - no, our place was the little white speck at the lower right hand corner in front of the hill.

Wow. Did you take that? Nice eye.
It is a beautiful area and the neighborhood is great! I loved my week there before moving onto the north shore. It takes your heart!
That's so pretty. I've travelled a lot in my life, but never to Hawaii. It's on my "must" list.

Our work situation made us leave our beloved Kailua last year. We survived one horrible winter in the Rocky Mountains. I feel your pain!
We were there in February and we loved the beach there! We are missing hearing all of the latest with you guys!!!
